APP OF THE WEEK

edukitchen

Preschool EduKitchen

In Preschool EduKitchen (available for iPad, iPhone, and iPod), toddlers and preschoolers will delight in counting, sorting, matching, and playing other games that teach basic concepts in this kitchen themed app.

Information about healthy eating choices and recycling is presented through simple but fun games. The bright, bold, cheerful illustrations and positive reinforcement will easily engage toddlers and preschoolers.

While the free version offers only three games, the paid version of the app includes 15 more.

APP OF THE WEEK

Tozzle        Tozzle

Wooden children’s puzzles go digital in this delightful app that makes developing eye-hand coordination, spatial reasoning, shape recognition, and other early literacy skills into a game.

Easy, medium, and not-too-hard puzzle boards are presented with the objects or shapes that complete them. Toddlers are rewarded for their successful piece placement. Frustration stays at a minimum when after a few tries, the child is prompted with the correct placement of the puzzle piece. Animations and snazzy sound effects help bring the puzzles to life.

Come in to any of the seven branches of Bucks County Free Library (Bensalem, Doylestown, Langhorne, Levittown, Perkasie, Quakertown, and Yardley) to try out Tozzle the Early Literacy App of the Week, or get it from the iTunes app store. There’s a free lite version that has three puzzles and the complete version offering 44 puzzles.

APP OF THE WEEK

ABCZOO     The early literacy app for this week is ABC Zoo from Lux HQ.

This app uses crisp and clear illustrations and simple text to introduce each letter of the alphabet.

Engaging sounds will encourage toddlers and preschoolers to continue playing (learning) long after they’ve gone from A to Z.

Come in to any of the seven branches of Bucks County Free Library (Bensalem, Doylestown, Langhorne, Levittown, Perkasie, Quakertown, and Yardley) to try out the App of the Week.

App of the Week

Have you noticed the iPads at the seven library branches? You can now enjoy newspapers and digital magazines on these iPads during your visit to the library. The magazines and newspapers can be found on either the Newsstand or Zinio app. Zinio is also available to use on your own device. You can find more information at http://www.buckslib.org/resources_a-to_z/#Z.

Every week you’ll find a new brain boosting game app on these iPads as well. We’ll be sure to explain the benefits of playing the game. The apps we feature will be free downloads or have a small cost associated with them.

Our first App of the Week is Clockwork Brain, named one of the 500 best apps in the world by the London Times. With over 600,000 downloads, this popular app will sharpen your skills with its unique puzzles.

In the children’s sections at the Bensalem, Langhorne, Levittown, Perkasie, Quakertown, and Yardley branches we are introducing iPads with books, games, and other interactive apps that promote Early Literacy Development and help build the skills that children need to learn to read and write. The children’s iPads also feature an App of the Week. Each has been carefully chosen by our librarians to provides a fun and educational experience for toddlers and preschoolers.

Pat the Bunny is the first early literacy App of the Week. This award winning app delightfully swaps the classic touch-and-feel story with an enhanced visual, auditory, and kinesthetic experience. It builds the early literacy skills of print awareness, print motivation, vocabulary development, narrative skills, and digital literacy.
