The Bucks County Free Library is a seven-branch system that employs about 150 people. Except for Library Aides, who are hired directly in the branch libraries, all hiring is conducted through the system headquarters in Doylestown.
Beyond the Bucks County Free Library, each Community Public Library has its own independent process for recruiting and hiring. Job listings for Community Public Libraries provide instructions for how to apply.
The Bucks County Free Library accepts and reviews applications only when there is a vacancy for a specific open position listed on our web site. We do not accept or review unsolicited applications or resumes.
Applications and job postings remain active and on our web site until the end of the hiring process for a position. Positions are "open until filled." Once a candidate has been hired the posting is taken down. Please check our web site regularly for new job postings. For best consideration, try to apply as soon as possible once a job is listed.
Applications are reviewed continuously. Interviews are usually scheduled within 14-28 days of the original date a position is first advertised. Everyone who submits an application will receive e-mail confirmation of receipt. If you have applied for a position but did not receive confirmation, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Otherwise, please do not call or e-mail regarding the status of your application. Because of the high volume of applications, we will contact you only if we are interested in interviewing. We will not be able to notify applicants of the outcome of each hiring opportunity.
We ask that every applicant complete and submit a resume by e-mail. We also ask that any applicant scheduled for an interview bring a completed job application to the interview. To fill out our application, you will need the dates of previous employment, the names, phone numbers, and addresses of previous employers, and the names, phone numbers, and addresses of at least three work references.
Please use the resume and job application to tell us details about your work history, skills, knowledge, and abilities as they relate to our specific job requirements. Job descriptions are provided in our postings so that applicants can match their work histories, knowledge, skills, and abilities against our needs and requirements, including physical requirements.
Please read and follow the instructions carefully and fill out the application completely. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. All hiring information is given careful and confidential consideration.
We do not consider an application complete unless a candidate has completed the pre-employment test or tests for a position. Any links for logging in to required tests are provided with the specific job posting.
Our pre-employment tests are designed to make sure an applicant's skills and abilities are a good fit for a specific library job. Please let us know if you need special accommodations for testing.
The most qualified candidates are selected and contacted for interviews. Except for Library Aide positions, all interviewing for positions in our seven branches takes place at our headquarters in Doylestown.
Applicants who are interviewed will be notified by phone of the outcome of the recruitment process once a decision is made.
Library Aides help keep the library orderly by shelving, straightening shelves, sorting and searching for items on the shelves, and keeping seating and other areas of the library neat. Library Aides greet library users and help them find their way around the library. The position is part time and pays minimum wage. Anyone age 16 or older may apply at any of our branch libraries.
