Science In The Summer 2013 - Simple Machines

Who

Bucks County students entering second through sixth grade are invited to register and attend GlaxoSmithKline's Science in the Summer program, a free and fun experiment-oriented course taught by certified teachers to groups of 15 students in two age groups: children entering second and third grades (Level I) and children entering fourth through sixth grades (Level II). GlaxoSmithKline's Science in the Summer is sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in partnership with The Franklin Institute and local libraries.

What

GlaxoSmithKline's Science in the Summer program will introduce Bucks County students to Physics using six kinds of Simple Machines - lever, inclined plane, screw, wheel, pulley and gear. Students will build simple machines that help people to do work more easily, such as lift huge boulders, build bridges, pump water, etc. Students will learn about motion, discovering that everything in the universe moves and why.

Why

GlaxoSmithKline's Science in the Summer opens young minds to the world of science and fosters a life-long appreciation of learning. Almost 116,000 students from the Greater Philadelphia region have participated in GlaxoSmithKline's Science in the Summer since its inception
