Pennsylvania's entire library funding is less than one-tenth of one percent of the state budget!
That amount of money is the equivalent of a rounding
error in a budget as large as Pennsylvania’s.
PLEASE communicate with the Governor and all of your legislators that in these
economic times, libraries are BUSIER and MORE CRUCIAL than ever! A handwritten
letter--just a sentence or two--is quick and has maximum impact:
1. Give a personal example of why your library is important to you, your
family, or our community.
2. Add one or more of the following key points in your own words:
Demand for library services is up dramatically during this recession.
Libraries are busier than ever serving people looking for work, families on tight budgets, and
retirees grappling with shrinking savings.
Loss in funding will result in library service cutbacks that we can ill-afford when expanded
library services can help many Pennsylvanians solve some of the problems they face in this
economy.
During this recession, Pennsylvania’s librarians ask only for level funding in order to meet
some part of the rising demand for hours and access to computers, training classes, current
books, publications, DVDs, and electronic databases.
No one stretches the public’s dollar further than the local library.
Library users across Pennsylvania will be affected by the slashing of state-wide programs.
